Hey all: I know that many of you participate in walks for various charities. Well, I've been thinking of doing these more often than once ever. Yes indeed, I want to line up at least one and perhaps more for this year, especially since I ADORE walking, and the walks of the organized variety do appeal to me. So far I know of the Run for the Cure (which I'm honestly contemplating doing again, as long as I'm with people I know as it's so large that I feel that I would get lost in the crowd without friends to join me), and then there's an AIDS walk of some sort I think. And Relay for Life (which although I'm not participating in it, I would like to donate to a participant in the Edmonton edition. Who's doing it? I promised I'd donate to someone in my area after getting two + requests from Americans, and I'd rather like to get the tax receipt that goes with my donation). But what else is out there?
So I got accepted into Open Studies for the fall. Realistically this is a given, but it's nice to know that for a fact and all.
My board games night went incredibly well last week. The upcoming one will be much fun too — of course the crowd will likely be very different, but that's not surprising, really.
Work's been good. I've been indulging quite a bit in good food, good walks, taking care of myself better and TRYING to see friends whom I hardly see — at least certainly not enough! Please please help me at this, as I'm really really wanting to see many of you more often than once in a blue moon.
My financial situation only gets better (as much as I keep throwing money at the University).
I'm also contemplating signing up for Run for the Cure again this year… but it is more fun to do this with friends (like last year) so we'll see what I decide.
And yes, you've heard correctly I am trying to get a Young Professionals Kiwanis club of Edmonton going in the fall. Please let me know if you're interested — I know that there's quite a bit of interest happening, but it's all nebulous at this point. I plan on informing myself greatly in the coming weeks and months.
I'm looking forward to Orlando and Denver. Quite exciting at this point, really. And of course the summer festival season is upon us soon too! Festivals I want to catch include: The River City Shakespeare Festival, The Works Festival, The Streetperformers Festival, the Fringe (insofar as I'm in town), Capital EX (I'll be volunteering a couple of shifts at the Kiwanis Giant Slide and probably going to an EDfest concert or two depending on what's playing bare minimum), A Taste of Edmonton (a birthday week tradition). Of course there are many more I'm hoping to catch, but it'll be random which of even these I'll be able to attend. As per late, I'll be missing Heritage Days due to being in the wrong country however. I also wonder who'll be playing Symphony Under the Sky (Arrogant Worms last year was amazing!).
In other news I'm looking forward to getting a raise at some point (a dollar or more? Retroactive??), possibly in June. I'm looking forward to playing frisbee, more long walks in the sunshine like today, more great food, more board games, and certainly hopefully a cleaner apartment, and more/better writing habits. Yes, I've lofty goals for my summer!

In other news I'm finally on top of my email accounts again. Life is good!
So I finished my last exam of the semester this morning. Relatively simple, a bit of review last night and this morning and I was ready. I guess I'm kind of sad to be done my BA… especially now that the last exam is done and over with. I think I ought to remember to apply to Open Studies soonish. Not that (if my last admissions acceptance is any indication) they'll even consider my application until my degree is in my hands… *sighs*
So to celebrate being done my degree, I went to Greenwoods' Volume II Books before it closes on the 26th. That's right folks, if you want to buy books at steep discount go before it's gone on the 26th! (It's closed on Sunday the 20th for inventory before it closes for good!) I got 4 books (was debating some others but these were ones I just HAD to have, others I can borrow or get second hand or at libraries): Persepolis 2 by Marjane Satrapi (I had just written my exam on Persepolis, so why not get the second book? I still want to read them in their original French however), Gail Sidonie Sobat's Gravity Journal (which was just published and launches in Edmonton on May 8th… Gail Sidonie Sobat is an AWESOME woman and great writer…), From Mushkegowuk to New Orleans: A Mixed Blood Highway by Joseph Boyden (the text from the inaugural Henry Kreisel Lecture at the UofA from last year — I was there and LOVED that lecture, so pleased am I to finally have the text!), and finally The Anansi Reader (an anthology of the 40 years of Anansi press, with excerpts and full poems and stories from many of my fave Canadian writers, plus some others that I'm not familiar with). Sure that was a great joy picking up these books! Of course many books (AMAZING ONES) that I already own are for great sale at the bookstore, so don't forget to check it out!
Then to Happy Harbour Comics where I checked out the small press/chapbooks/zines scene but didn't buy anything except for Munchkin (which I'd been wanting for quite a while now)… I think this'll make Board Games night next week extra fun!
And then I got some sushi at Shogun before heading to the computer… *smiles* I'm just so content now! Now if only I could figure out why my tooth likes hurting (dentist's appointment Monday morning) life'll be even more amazing!
Last Monday (not yesterday, but the Monday before that!) I finished my degree. Unless some catastrophic event happened meaning that I somehow failed that course… (practically impossible, mind you!), I've finished my BA. Now to get caught up on the rest of my life!
Hence why I haven't posted to LJ lately. I've been trying to catch up on everything else. That said it's slowly but surely getting done and I'm actually feeling much better rested for it (it will take eons though at this rate). I'm a big fan of the fact that I did my taxes, I'm increasing my RRSPs and otherwise planning for the future!
Speaking of the future, I've booked my trip to Orlando for Kiwanis International Convention this June. Next on the planning list is to figure out what I'm doing with my spare time there… oh and then there's planning for CKI International Convention! 🙂
But yeah, I've MUCH more time now (and will have more after Friday since that's my last exam, you know for those classes I was taking purely for the fun of it!), so I look forward to things like more frisbee, more activity and more board games. Not to mention spring/summer!
Now for those exams…
