Wind and work and reading…

I finished reading (re-reading? I recognized the ending, but not a bunch of other episodes) The Wind in the Willows for class this week… and truly enjoyed it (although I was tired enough after work to fall asleep a couple of times during my readings).

Work's picked up crazily (well for me really) lots of technical stuff to get accomplished (ESPECIALLY TODAY!) in the Health and Safety sphere. I'm excited but nervous… *shrugs*

I've actually cracked open Season 6 of Gilmore Girls finally… and have started watching. Lots of fun stuff… and it feels great. I think that Gilmore Girls is my comfort TV viewing. I like to watch it especially when I'm in a low-mind-set.

I'm surrounding myself with more and more positive influences these days. This feels great!

Also A ZILLION thanks to Jackie for showing me Say Anything! I loved the movie!!! 🙂

And I'm not as tired as I thought I would be with as little sleep as I've sometimes been having.

A short meme-palooza for the day (since I'm too tired to post much else)

Your Personality Cluster is Extraverted Thinking

You are:

Organized and logical – a master at puzzles
Competitive in almost any arena of life
Objective when necessary, but passionate about what you truly love
Intolerant of excuses and incompetence

You Belong in 1962

If you scored…

1950 – 1959: You're fun loving, romantic, and more than a little innocent. See you at the drive in!

1960 – 1969: You are a free spirit with a huge heart. Love, peace, and happiness rule – oh, and drugs too.

1970 – 1979: Bold and brash, you take life by the horns. Whether you're partying or protesting, you give it your all!

1980 – 1989: Wild, over the top, and just a little bit cheesy. You're colorful at night – and successful during the day.

1990 – 1999: With you anything goes! You're grunge one day, ghetto fabulous the next. It's all good!

Okay, so why exactly am I procrastinating?

I mean, really, there's a bunch of things I want to get done (reading Winnie-the-Pooh, writing another piece in order to get another [hopefully not rejection again] answer from the editors, the second draft of my non-fiction piece, eating, dishes, and of course reading Faust)….
I'm still rather euphoric for having attended the conf. I did this weekend, and finishing reading my awesome Children's lit book, and doing my general online stuff for the day.
🙂 But it's time to stop procrastinating… maybe I'll start on some homework?

Bible Meme

You know the Bible 54%!

Congratulations! You know a lot about the Bible – the books, the characters, the events. You are able to remember a lot of what you have heard and read!

Having finally finished the wonderous book of children's stories to 1850 that I was reading sort of for class… I think I remembered a bit more about the bible than I otherwise would have. Still, for most questions I could narrow the answers down to one of two choices… the others being rather implausible.

Fairy tales and education entwined…

I highly recommend Pan's Labyrinth to anyone who can stomach the brutality/disturbing violence of it… as the tale itself is a fabulous mix of fairy tales (not meant for children!) and history (in so far as it is set in Spain 1944)… but also because it is so beautifully filmed with such imaginative creature creations and fabulous portrayals of the characters. So, really, essentially, see it if you dare! (Barb's comments regarding the seductive nature of the taboo are oh so relevant to this film…) Thanks again to Heather for coming and seeing it with me, I always appreciate spending time with awesome friends.

School's going remarkably well — I'm adoring my readings from my children's lit class. In fact the whole routine of things is going well… Even the learning curve at work (yes it's not school either) is not throwing me off cliffs or anything — I'm slowly but surely getting where I need to be…

Anywho… I ought to head off to other things before attending the first bit of a CKI meeting (I've been horribly delinquent in my non-attendance to those last term) and to the Sherwood Park Kiwanis club meeting where I'll be talking about the mammoth trip — thanks again (and well deserved thanks!) go to Rajeev for all of his help in that area. If I'm on top of things I'll even make it to my scholarship application tonight or this weekend and perhaps even get some other tasks checked off my metaphorical to-do list (since this time for once I don't actually have a paper & ink to-do list (or even one on my computer).

Another successful night with friends — week two of Joy Luck!

So tonight I hosted a bunch o' great people at my place for veggie pizza, veggies and dip, valarios, and non-alcoholic champagne…. essentially great company, Trivial Pursuit (we're all very un-trivia savvy tonight!) and so on! 🙂 Very great!!

In other news I won a double guest pass to Pan's Labyrinth at City Centre at 7pm on Wednesday (we'd have to be there at like 6:30 to get seats)… and I'm looking for someone to go with… if anyone replies to this message before 4pm tomorrow I can probably work it out… otherwise I think I'll go with a great friend (although scheduling might be messy).

And I guess I'm going to try to rebuild a semblance of an mp3 collection on my computer… we'll see. I don't usually download stuff but if someone sends me a song I have the tendancy to add it and all… *shrugs* Probably the instances of Paul posting a song on Facebook and Nancy having her band's stuff online did it for me.

In otherwords, as per usual, I need to see more movies!

Books books and more books! :)

Gotta love it! 🙂 I'm studying some massively awesome subjects (children's lit for one and Deals with the devil, seduction and blood sucking for another plus writing), and yes, have homework already — yay reading and writing! I've also ordered/bought/borrowed all the books/DVD that I need for the semester (yay for Chapters.indigo.ca, abebooks.com, the Wee Book Inn, The Book Cellar, the UofA Bookstore, my parents and brother in no particular order!)… using gift certificates, cash, cards, paypal etc…. gotta love discounts and the smell of new books — plus reading them!
*sighs* it'll be a great semester!

School rocks! Oh and here's a meme:

What Fantasy Archetype Are you?

The Unlikely Hero
You are the Unlikely Hero! Others like you are Frodo (Lord of The Rings), Young Aurthur (arthurian Legend), Luke Skywalker (Star Wars), Peter/Susan/Edmund/Lucy (Narnia), Richard Mayhew (Neverwhere), Harry Potter (Harry Potter) and Richard Cypher (Wizard's first Rule). You were happy to just live out your life as a peaceful schoolboy/farmer/wood's guide. But alas, greatness was thrust upon you. Don't let the hordes of The Totally Wicked Villain get you down, you have your Seasoned Veteran Friend to protect you and you almost always end up with the Pillar-of-Strength Love interest. Heed you Mentor well and keep your chin up, hero! You are simple, humble and kind but possess great potential for truly inspirational heroism, bravery and strength in dark times.

The Joy Luck club has begun! :)

So Jackie did an AMAZING excellent job hosting the first Joy Luck night — and mine is on Monday! If anyone not already on the list for Joy Luck would like to come for a meal a la Ali please let me know, and I'll make sure there'll be enough for you. In addition I'd love to know who will and won't be there from the current group.
