Happy New Year everyone!

Before I forget to send you all some mighty happy 2006 wishes… HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🙂

I'm *thinking* I'll be wearing a party hat in only an hour and a half… yes that's right, I went in to buy some groceries (I was out of bread and awake anyway) and noticed the hats on everyone! It'll be fun!

As for the evening itself… I'm still considering Brad's party… we'll see. I still do work tomorrow… so I'll have to get home somehow… *sighs* We'll see.

Anywho… Happiest New Years one and all! I know that the end of 2005 has been treating me well, and I hope that 2006 just continues this excellent trend!!

Posting=Procrastinating (what else is new? ;) )

So my brother brought over my computer chair (now in a semi-repaired state!)… which is remarkably comfortable compared to the other one. And I thought that it was irreparable. What do I know anyway?

Essentially I've been procrastinating cleaning or doing reading for class… or even writing some semi-good-enough poetry to submit for class… or… any of those other 'important' things that I ought to be doing today. Perhaps I need to get offline and do some of those things, eh?

I work this afternoon… a nice short shift… the kind of shift where I get the fewest breaks/hours worked. But still it's work… and if I remember correctly I get paid today also (getting paid weekly IS rather nifty!).

Tomorrow's New Years Eve… I still don't quite know what I'll be doing. I'm thinking of either relaxing at home… or heading to Brad's party thing… problem of course being how to get there, especially given that I work until 6pm, and I've never been to his place before and thus wouldn't recognize it. *sighs*

I wonder how much more unproductive I could be today?

More Christmas musings (as I find myself still at my parents' and online)

The lights outside are quite enjoyable to walk through with my father, talking about whatever that comes up, although being interrupted by my brother's cell phone ring (I doubt I could get used to having a cell phone if ever I were to get one… at least not quickly… ack!) telling us at the point when we are almost the furthest from home that it was time to be back for my little nephew's gift opening. Talk about timing! 😉 Anywho… it's always quite fun to watch little ones open gifts… especially when they're so receptive. The papers certainly entertained… and fortunately even with the head-butt/hug that he provided me with, a great time was had by all. Cutest was the fact that he helped choose out my present… at least he chose the scents for candles. Not half bad if I say so myself. I wonder if I'll burn 'em?

Today I SO didn't go Boxing day shopping. Actually I did, if you count shopping in the Fort really Boxing day shopping: I bought some more pens (a box of 12) and a night shirt (yay for new pjs on sale!). Nothing spectacular, but fun to spend some time with my mother (who incidentally hates shopping *sighs*).

Then there's always food, and crossword puzzles at home… plus a zillion sports highlights and games to watch on the massive TVs, along with other entertainment for the holidays. No harm in any of that certainly.

Tonight I should be heading back into the city to home… tomorrow I'm back at work. Maybe I'll have caught up enough on sleep to not be zombie-rific? 😉

Random thought: I think I need to read more poetry and write more stuff. Preferably do my homework for poetry class also. We'll see.

I wonder how many CKIers check their email regularly when I need them to? *sighs*. I'll just have to deal with things once I get back to my place, eh?

Christmas spoiled me! :)

So I expected to spoil my family for Christmas… and mom really did get spoiled, for which I'm very happy. She certainly deserves it. I think that my brothers truly enjoyed their gifts too.

But truly, I feel utterly spoiled! The desk that Logan and I put together yesterday afternoon before leaving for my parents' place was and is amazing… it'll take some time to get used to I assume, but it's nice and fits oh so perfectly! Not to mention the fact that my brother was awesome and hooked my computer back up excellently. And of course, it was way cool to be able to move my old computer table thingy to the side to put my toaster oven on. Maybe I'll actually use it now? *shrugs*

Anywho… this morning, I was truly spoiled! I got so many excellent gifts! I totally didn't expect to get this spoiled!! The Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire soundtrack is excellent!! I just listened to the amazing Viennese Waltz… such fun! It would be great to dance to it eventually. I also got the Damien Rice cd O.

My Gilmore Girls fix will be had with seasons 2 and 5 (I still need 3 and 4 to complete my collection… that is until the 6th season comes out! 😉 ) There's even a Gilmore Girls-isms booklet in Season 2 to read and understand a bunch 'o the things that they say and aren't necessarily common knowledge.

And then Johnny Depp movies *sighs*… how pleased I am to have What's Eating Gilbert Grape!! I've been wanting that one for years and years and now I own it! Edward Scissorhands is pretty cool too: the first Johnny Depp movie I ever saw!

And a brand new pillow for my bed…. it'll be so comfy!! 🙂

I'm incredibly incredibly pleased to say the least (although I was much more pleased with my family and friends' reactions to their gifts… but that was afterall the intention!). I think that the folks are incredibly pleased (although tired… given the adventures of the evening/morning).

I hope everyone's Christmas was/is as happy as my morning has been treating me! 🙂

Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Thoughts for the day:
Emotions are wonderful wonderful things.
Wrapping gifts is quite enjoyable.
I'm oh so happy with my grades from this past semester.
It is incredibly incredibly warm outside.
Going home for Christmas will be nice.
Thanks to Anastasia for the wonderful goodies!
Thanks to Greg for the third season of That '70s Show.
And of course thanks to everyone for the amazing Christmas cards, good cheer and so on!
Jen, your candy cane and card was muchly appreciated also.
And of course a many thanks to Jeff for a wonderful evening. *smiles*

Take care all, and enjoy Christmas Eve and Day. Many smiles to all!

Take the Seven Deadly Sins Quiz

It feels good to be home!

So, I'm home once more (yes, my sleeping/waking schedule is completely out of wack… I'm sure I'll fix it by the time I go back to work on the 27th). I had a most excellent time in Texas and Mexico with some really wonderful people. Although I've returned to some wonderful CKI stuff, and have a ton to catch up on, not to mention a bunch of people I'll most certainly miss (thanks of course to the hospitality of Rocky, Kelly, Sam, and Daniel among others, and Rajeev and Gwen for all their hard work organizing the trip… plus all the rest of the great people I met along the way)… it feels great to be home, especially to meet a nice warm and welcoming face at the airport (thanks Jeff!). Lots of things happening surely… and I likely should get some shut-eye tonight before volunteering up a storm in the morning… but hey… it's been a great time overall!

BTW… coming home to the notice that I've won a scholarship is certainly not a bad thing either! YAY for being a UofA Alumni and thus eligible for that extra $2500!!! 🙂

The Christmas cards and presents are also a nice welcome home!

In Houston!

So I thought that since I had the free time I'd type a bit about Houston. It is certainly not Edmonton! My flight arrived around 12:30ishPM yesterday and was followed with some adventures with Sam driving us around the roads of Houston in search of food and then of the real-estate agent that we were going to go view some houses with. That was an interesting experience to say the least: archetecture is not the same here as in Edmonton! Much more city-feeling I think not to mention Mexican influences, emphasis on air conditioning, and so on. Interesting to view such new homes, especially those that had not been finished just yet. In any case, as much as Sam might not think so, I had an excellent time.
We had an excellent dinner (greek food) at a quick serve (well quick if you're not ordering pork chops!) Greek restaurant (Niko Nikos) before driving around Downtown Houston and River Oaks to look at all the lights. It really feels weird to see all the Christmas decorations with no snow!! The Christmas carols also seem rather out of place. That said, driving the wind-y roads amongst the trees and mansions in River Oaks was fun, especially with all the Bearstein-Bear-trees and the white lights (there was a dearth of colour at these homes… very much white-light classy. Nothing like Candy Cane lane (no people… the houses don't seem really lived in from the outside like this, although the sights were rather breath taking, especially with the balls of light and the massive stockings hung from windows) but fun just the same. Nice to see all aspects of the city from the really rich areas to the more ghetto-like areas. Interesting comparisons.
I spent the night in Patrick's apt's guest suite (one of them, really like a really really nice hotel room)[observation: Jeff has totally gotten me onto a kick of using the word 'really' this week]. Now, I'm in his sixth floor apt hammering away at the keyboard (I'm very un-used to the typical keyboards and miss my own one at home… with its gap in the middle!). This apartment building is truly WOW. I mean, basketball players live here! Thirty some-odd floors… and valet parking. Nothing like any of my friends' places at home… it'll be a change to go sleep on concrete floor in a few days when we actually get to build them houses. I still can't wait. I've a ton of toys for the kids in the area and of course whatever I need for supplies.
I think that the rest of my day will be spent helping someone move and then out for dinner with Patrick and Sam's friends (12 people total?), and maybe if they can get tickets seeing King Kong (which should be nice, although I don't have my glasses with me (no need to lose them) I'll still likely be able to see things well enough).

Laundry and Christmas cards done… packing and wrapping left! :)

So as I sit here revelling in the fun that is listening to Christmas carols, I'm working quickly to get everything all done for my trip… and the anticipation most certainly mounts. I can't wait to meet everyone in Houston, El Paso and Juarez for the trip! I can't wait to work on those houses… I can't wait until…!! 😉

Can you tell I'm looking forward to flying tomorrow?

I'm going to miss Edmonton (and the people here) while I'm gone though…
