Questions answered… music style! (from Mim)

Put your music player on random and see how it answers! Customize questions to yourself as you feel fit.

What do you think of me, Random Music Player?
1.John Williams — Diagon Alley/The Gringotts Vault (hmmm… ecclectic enough perhaps… but am I really that rich and bizarre?)

Will I have a happy life?
2. the pillows — Patricia (hmmm… interesting answer… it's indeed upbeat enough… but hmmmmm!)

What do my friends really think of me?
3. John Williams — Christmas at Hogwarts (this must also be a good thing… right? Afterall, I do like Christmas!)

Do people secretly lust after me?
4. Third Eye Blind — Motorcycle Drive By (hmmm… that would be a yes, eh?)

How can I make myself happy?
5. Captain Tractor — Up the Hill (uh yeah… so that drinking thing… right… πŸ˜‰ But the song sorta does work… given the upbeat music-y nature… and activity it posesses πŸ˜‰ )

What should I do with my life?
6. Philip Glass — Morning Passages (hmmm… a long journey of ups and downs, highs and lows… music and wonder… that does sound about right, now doesn't it?)

Why must life be so full of pain?
7. Air — Kelly watch the stars (oh… right… such an enigmatic answer now!)

How can I catch a leprechaun?
8. Norah Jones — Don't Know Why (through love? I dunno.)

Will I ever have children?
9. Disney — Belle (well… Belle's life ended out happily, but this doesn't really answer our question, now does it?)

Will I die happy?
10. Bhangra Knights vs. Husan — Husan (huh…)

Can you give me some advice?
11. John Williams — Hogwarts Forever! And the Moving Staircase (My music player is playing a bit much-ish of Harry Potter soundtrack songs, eh?)

What do you think happiness is?
12. Peaches — Fuck the Pain Away (uh… somehow I'm going to say that probably doesn't work quite so well as the other answers the music player has given… *smiles*)

Do you have any advice to give over the next few hours/days?
13. Eric Clapton — Change the World (hmmm… that's actually some good advice)

A song for me.
14. The Presidents of the United States of America — Some Postman (gosh I ADORE that song! I'm such a mail person!!)

A song for Mim. (substitute appropriate names — BEFORE asking the player for the songs!)
15. Matt Nathanson — Sad Songs (hmmm… actually this works rather well, Mim! Give it a listen)

A song for Pete.
16. Morning Song Coda (afterall… you did say you were becoming a Morning person πŸ˜‰ and no, I don't remember where it comes from or who does it *sighs*)

A song for Josh.
17. Dakona — Good (*smiles*)

A Song for Anastasia.
18. John Williams — The Norwegian Ridgeback/A Change of Season (my! Harry Potter music everywhere! πŸ™‚ )

A song for everyone else.

What will next year be like?
21. Joss Whedon & Christopher Beck — Sweet's Song (hmmm… interesting)

Thanks Mim! I muchly enjoyed this little game! πŸ™‚

CFL fun times… from service to game time and fun!

So yesterday I did some lovely service for the food bank… Ashley and I went to Commonwealth and collected donations for the food bank before (and during) the Edmonton Eskimos Football game in exchange for nifty vouchers for free pics with the Grey Cup (note we each got free pics with the Grey Cup also… good stuff that!). Apparently we (and others) raised $17000+ dollars plus a ton of actual food donations for the food bank, so it was certainly worthwhile. We tag teamed it a bit, working together to get the donations (and it was super nice to run into friends and Kiwanians too…) and talked a bit of CKI.

Then we got to see the rest of the game for free. Nice perk of volunteering… not that I wouldn't have done it anyway. *shrugs* We saw everything from the end of the first quarter onwards. I must have gotten a dozen of compliments on my signed Eskimos bandana (mind you the player who signed it [and who is still a super amazing player] now plays for the other team… *shrugs*). The Eskimos even won the game by 10 points this time around (it would have been more if it hadn't been for the flag on the field during the last play, giving the Montreal Alouettes the chance to make up some of the difference with a touchdown and a convert).

I was amused by the French themed halftime show… very short certainly, but fun. More humourous when I noted that the song mentioned Alouette (usually a bird from the common French song by that moniker), and the fact that we were playing the Alouettes. I really do enjoy French Canadian music.

I was also incredibly glad not to have to sit in College corner (usually where college students end up sitting given the incredibly affordable price). We were able to take seats in any upper level spot that didn't have someone already seated. So we were close enough to the center of the stands not to be in the area where police officers were taking down and taking away fighting and drunk college students on a regular basis. It was rather much more entertaining to watch from afar. On the downside, a child went missing in our section. I hope he was found.

All in all, it was a good night, and I was happy to be able to spend the time with Ashley and see some great football.

Realizing that I'd be stupid not to…

So I was thinking today: I really need to go to a Fringe show this year.

Problem: which show? How does this work? I've never been to an actual Fringe show (not that I haven't wanted to… I'm just really really good at not deciding on anything in specific… and/or not having people to go with… *shrugs* I'll go by myself this year if necessary… but I'd love to have some friends join me. I'm thinking of going Saturday and/or Sunday.

And yes, I've been to the Fringe… and seen the outdoor brouhaha… and had a lot of fun. I was even about a block away today when I picked up the money that I earned when I consigned some of my clothes. But I promised myself that if I didn't get elected to an office that would require my travel over this weekend (and evidently I didn't) that I'd go out and actually catch some of the Edmonton International Fringe Festival….

And well… I will. I'm enough of a festival junkie (I sadly missed the Street Performers Festival this year *sighs*) to want to go.

In other news… who wants to join me on the evening of September 1st at the Leg grounds for some great fun and entertainment? Barrage is playing so I'm SO there (not to mention the fact that this party is the big one to celebrate Alberta's Centennial!!)!

Oh… and apparently this free time stuff is good potatoes πŸ˜‰ I mean… how else would I have gotten out to run some interesting errands today… play CKI soccer and end my evening out at the Parkallen restaurant with some yummy escargot, and lebanese meat pies (I can't spell the name of them at the moment)?? It being the last soccer game of the season, I'm sad to see it over yet again… but hey, at least I played… and today, we even had (a miraculous) number of girls: they outnumbered the guys!! It was like the first time in… well as long as I've been playing soccer for the team I suppose… that there's ever been more girls than guys show up to a game! FYI: although we are in the rec division… we DID post the best standings in our division… which is pretty awesome for a team whose slogan is/was: we just let you win.

Because it's important (copied from wrin)

I am the guy who came out to the entire school in his senior speech and got a standing ovation for his courage.

I am the girl who kisses her girlfriend on the sidewalk and laughs at those who glare.

We are the couple who planned and studied and got a damn good lawyer and BEAT the state that wanted to take our child away.

We are the ones who took martial arts classes and carry pepper spray and are just too dangerous to gay bash.

I am the transgender person who uses the bathroom that suits me, and demands that any complaining staff explain their complaint to my face in front of the entire restaurant — and shares with my other trans friends which restaurants /don't/ raise a stink.

I am the mother who told her lesbian daughter to invite her girlfriend over for dinner.

I am the father who punished his son for calling you a fag.

I am the preacher who told my congregation that love, not hate, is the definition of a true follower of God.

I am the girl who did not learn the meaning of homosexual until high school but never thought to question why two men might be kissing.

I am the woman who argues (quite loudly and vehemently) with the bigots who insist that you do not have the right to marry or raise children.

We are the high school class who agrees, unanimously, along with our teacher, that love should be all that matters.

If you agree, post ANYTHING in your journal. Or on your website, gallery, t-shirt, button, a sign in your front yard, ANYWHERE. Do it. You don't have to be afraid. You can handle it. You're stronger than you think.

I am making a difference. Hate will NOT win.

You told me so… (finally an actual post about the latest trip)

LSSP/ICON/and a few days at Troy's mother's house… from the 7th to the 19th… it was a long time to be gone…
… but a really great time just the same.

And while my mind and body misses it all with every breath… well… I'm glad that it all happened.

Why? 'cause it taught me some things. And will pose some challenges this coming year… but also because it was filled to the brim with the creation of memories.

And well… so many 'you's told me things before at or even after ICON… which most certainly deserve comments… afterall… they do well to summarize my adventures! πŸ˜‰

You told me to be more political, but what I wanted to do was do a good job at my current position… you were right… getting all political and tooting my own horn might have possibly secured me a position on this year's board… but I don't know if I'd be happy with doing all that… I'm much more pleased with all the compliments for having done a good job this year with what I needed to do.

You were right: talking eloquently and having stock speeches does make an impact, but I'm still pleased with the brush strokes (as Steve Siemens put it) and the small things rather than perhaps the large ones.

You told me that because I'm from a small district I wouldn't be as well known… you were right… even on the third day of ICON, people stopped me in the elevator and asked Are you a governor?

You were right: it's tough to go from holding an International office to not holding one… ICON is an emotional rollercoaster… and sleep is a rather useful thing to have on occaision.

I learned a lot at this convention: Pickaxes are great fun, people can accomplish tonnes when working together to better the world, and that people can indeed become united toward a common goal — even if it is the loss of a few heads of hair!

North Carolina was a wonderful area: it surprised me how amazing it was to be there, how great the convention center was and how much fun we could all have together playing Bocci ball (as much as I've always loved it).

I learned new card games, new board games, and met new people, new friends. I got to have long conversations with members and alumni alike, I had shoulders to cry on, friends to hang with, and long discussions of great import for the organization. I got to speak in front of hundreds, I got to talk one on one and got to facilitate a workshop.

I had the joy of success, and the pain of not quite reaching my goals. I had the pleasure of saying hello and the reality of saying goodbye. I got to survive off of candy and junk food and have some of the best meals that I've had the joy of eating. I walked in many department stores, dollar stores, Target, Kmart, and Walmart… visited a town with the same name as my high school, and saw the sights of the interstates.

We had parties, sleepovers, and block parties, dances, meals out, sleep deprived daytimes, service filled days and really, an amazing culmination of a year which for me involved some of the most amazing experiences.

And the tears at closing session told the tale… CKI and the Kiwanis family will always be part of my life somehow. This year has truly helped make me whom I am today…

And having helped shave the wave… I think I'm happy with it all.
Thank you to everyone for an amazing year.

http://www.outofservice.com/music-personality-test/results/?complex=72&edgy=54&fun=58&energetic=18
My music taste is well… interesting apparently.

Oh and on the really cool Political Compass test http://politicalcompass.org/
it claims that I fall in the following area:
Economic Left/Right: -1.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.79

Another one of those question-y thingys… this time from Aileen

The theory is that you will learn a lot of little things about your
friends, if you did not know them already.

1. What time did you get up this morning? Well… I woke up to a weird noise around 8somethingAM… and then went back to la-la land until whenever the phone rang to tell me I 'won' a stupid contest. Remind me sometime that thinking coherently while stupid telephone marketting people are yelling at me, the morning after spending over 18hrs trying to get home from ICON is NOT a good idea.

2. Diamonds or Pearls? Diamonds are so great! πŸ™‚

3. Last film you saw at the cinema? Ouch! Uhhh… it's been like ages! Was it perhaps Mad Hot Ballroom or was it more recent than that even? *shrugs*

4. Your favourite TV show? Hmmm… CSI, That '70s Show, or Gilmore Girls.

5. What did you have for breakfast? Uh… Sweet Tarts, a scrambled egg (thanks Greg!), and a funghi Ristorante pizza.

6. What is your middle name(s)? Kira

7. Your favourite cuisine? it's probably Japanese… although there's a lot of really great stuff out there.

8. Food you dislike? Cilantro. Pickles (although I like Japanese pickles), mustard… there's a bunch of others but really… Cilantro is the worst.

9. Favourite chip flavour? plain… or salt 'n' vinegar or something *shrugs*

10. What is your favourite CD at the moment? Hmmm… I dunno… there's a lot of good ones. If someone made me a CD of ICON songs from the past three years however I'd be peachy keen!

11. What kind of car do you drive? I don't.

12. Favourite Sandwich? hmmm… that's a toughie. Something interesting usually.

13. What characteristics do you despise? hmmm… hard question. I guess I really find it frustrating to know people who aren't true to themselves. Or who say one thing and do another… or who expect us to do what they say and not what they do. But despise? That's a rather tough term… I guess people who don't respect others or who act ONLY in their own best interests without regard for law, rule, or even just for how their actions might affect others (now people who act in their own best interests knowing the effects is an entirely different story, as sometimes [not always] this might be somewhat justified).

14. Favourite item of clothing? Gosh… probably either my Utah State sweater, my jean skirt (the newest one!), or my Merrell sandals (flip flops). Actually there's a bunch of others that I rather adore also… all new and nifty! πŸ™‚

15. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation where would you go? Wherever my friends are really. This week at Troy's was amazing… as was ICON and LSSP. I really want to go to well… a LOT of events and whatnot… and if money were not a problem… *sighs* But wherever my friends are… that's where I'd like to be.

16. What color is your bathroom? Off white.

17. Where would you retire to? Hmmm… I'd love to have my dream home somewheres… probably in Canada… but you know with all my trips to the USA… some places aren't all that bad to live in I would imagine… *shrugs*… but given that I had a static home somewheres… I'd want the ability to travel freely however often as desired to visit all my far flung friends and truly explore.

18. What is your most memorable birthday? Gah! Probably my 22nd birthday… yeah… I'll go with that one. sure.

19. Where were you born? Revelstoke, BC

20. Favourite sport to watch? Figure Skating. Although Really, I love to watch most sports live… Figure skating is one of the few I adore on the tv as well.

21. Who do you least expect to send this back? why would anyone want to do that?

22. Person you expect to send it back first? ditto

23. What fabric detergent do you use? Sunlight

24. Coke or Pepsi? Neither. How about a sweet tea (gosh those were yummy!), or maybe another bubble tea (I just finished one), a herbal tea, a virgin margherita or something else equally yummy?

25. Morning person or night owl? Both actually. It's mid-day that I feel like a zombie.

26. What is your shoe size? 7.5 or something. Really it depends on the shoe.

27. Do you have any pets? nope… unless you include the pet rock that I bet I have stashed away somewheres.

28. What do you think of the person who sent you this? Aileen, you are one of the most amazing Kiwanians and fun friends that I've had the pleasure of getting to know… I only hope we have the opportunity to continue to have some fun times in the coming months and years! πŸ™‚

… leaving on a Jet plane… (AGAIN! :) )

So… I guess you could say I'm already counting down the hours. I've about 24 hrs left before having to catch the SkyShuttle to get to the airport and jet off to Greensboro, NC, USA. Did you know that that will be the most South and East I will have ever ventured in the USA?

Hearing people complain about the nice weather here being too warm, I wonder how I'll handle the weather in Greensboro. I doubt I'll have huge issues, however, because I did manage Taiwan alright 4 years ago. You know what? It's hard to believe it's been 4 years. It's even harder to believe I'm 23 years old… or that it's been over 5 years since high school. *sighs* I guess I must be growing up. Weird. Truly weird.

So, in preparation for my trip, I've been putting together internet stuff, files and whatnot for CKI purposes, stealing myself for the stress ahead, and in general getting a zillion things done (and I've, unremarkably, still a million more *sighs*). On Thursday, for example, I went to the spa for a couple hours… the new haircut is fabulous! Not only that, but I had a glorious facial… and finally got me that Spa Club membership I'd been promising myself. Completely worth it, since the hairstylist finally gave me a haircut I desired: one that eliminated all the rotten split ends. *shrugs* It's rather short now, so it's kind of weird… I mean it looks great and well helps me radiate confidence (the plan… surely! πŸ˜‰ ) but it just feels weird to not have all that hair that I started the week with.

I still don't know what I'm packing, or how even I'll pack it all. I'll be back home in Edmonton on the 19th I imagine… and at some point after that, I'll probably type some more gobbley gook online. But, in the meantime… fare-thee-well, all of you internet users!
