Just a quick meme to start the day :)

You Were Actually Born Under:
You are totally loyal, faithful, and honest.
However, you don't trust others to be as ethical as you are!
Straight forward and direct, you really aren't one for small talk.
You are a great listener – and an agreeable companion when you're in a good mood!

You are most compatible with a Tiger or Horse.

it's like a Care Bears' stigmata

So… lately, I've been a tad bit more klutzy than usual. Certainly not the milkshake disaster of whatever year it was… but still.

In fact these days I've done the following stupid things (in no particular order):
– concussion at waterslides in Indy
– cutting my hand with scissors (in defense it was morning, and I was half-asleep)
– burning my forearm on the oven (fortunately it's healing very nicely thanks to my knowing first aid)
– various cuts, scrapes and general stuff I should know better than to do.

Oh and today… I managed to scrape the pinky finger on my right hand… making a wonderfully heart shaped red spot (yes, a nice pool of blood. Not dripping or anything, otherwise I wouldn't have ignored it until now)… which fortunately or unfortunately is heart shaped.

Weird eh? It's like something's trying to tell me that yes… I can injure myself insignificantly, but that it's all good or something else lovey dovey or something like that.

Suffice to say, I'm not a great fan. Oh and I credit my roommate with the quote above.

Some of you might have noticed that I'm the 'queen of free stuff' so to speak…

Today I finally got my Livestrong bracelet… I also received my reward for selling the most donations to the Stollery at work. Basically it's a nice (well I haven't used it evidently) Toaster Oven.

Certainly, I'm pleased to accumulate those items today (in addition to the chair and filing cabinet from my parents and of course some random samples in the mail as per usual).

Life really is good, ain't it? 🙂

Frozen hands, Monarchy, elected officials, and a thorough soaking…

Yep… the subject says it all: I went to the Alberta Centennial Kick off party today (along with well… a pretty scattered crowd willing to bear the brunt of the elements… gosh it was ever so wet!). Not only are my finger tips and hands generally painful right now as they attempt to warm up (and become a little less numb), but my body underwent a general soaking… mostly dry by now otherwise, it was worth it.

Why was it worth it exactly? With a shortened schedule of events, the day included a great deal of interesting happenings. Certainly the recorded music was lack luster compared to what was originally planned, but the safety of the performers is evidently paramount.

Her Magesty Queen Elizabeth II looked radiant with her tan hat and jacket, carrying a practical clear umbrella. His Royal Highness Prince Philip also appeared quite regal. The Premier and his wife (Dr. Klein) made a great entrance in an old fashioned car from the Reynolds Museum. I rather thought Ralph Klein's wife looked great in her red hat.

The 21 gun salute was just visible from our location in the upper deck… as was the parade of vehicles into the stadium. The Red Serge, the Massed Pipers, the costumes of people, and patterns on the field all added together for a memory not so easy to forget. Sure, things would have been better had the entertainment not been so often under the shelter of awnings, but really, what better can I expect?

The cake cutting was rather interesting… as was the crowd singing (or lack thereof… the crowd was pretty small considering). I think the kids involved really did us proud as a province… the spirit of service embodied in at least a few of them is quite remarkable to say the least.

Ian Tyson's rendition of his two songs was great… in fact I was incredibly impressed. The Gospel choir was good, as were Tommy Banks and some of the other entertainers.

If only it hadn't rained so darn much!

Then perhaps my hands wouldn't be in the process of tingling with pins and needles… Youch!

Meme time! :)

Anyone free on May 31st from 10am-6pm (or thereabouts)?

So Apparently I'm working on May 31st from 10am-6pm. Apparently Shaw wants to come install my digital phone service that day. I want them to do it that day, but I'm apparently not going to be available from 12-noon-4pm and I thus need someone over the age of 18 to be home on my behalf.

Any takers?? Maybe we can go for dinner together afterwards or something? Let me know.

So long and thanks for all the fish

So I finally saw HHGTTG.

And frankly… while I did find it rather short, and like almost any other fan of the book series out there, missing some of my favorite parts from the book… I was impressed.

Rather impressed actually. The movie was a chortle a moment awesome fun time (if you ever needed a tag line from a movie review on this by yours truly… that would likly fit quite reasonably). Really. I rather liked… a lot of little things: like, for example, how the characters used their towels, or how the Vogons were transfered to the screen (although, I must admit that my imagination would have made them rather much more distasteful). Really well done… from the dolphins at the beginning of the movie to the… well… open-endedness at the end (and inevitable provision for a sequel… although Douglas Adams is gone… so who knows what will be decided in that vein *shrugs*).

Marvin was perhaps too cute and loveable (for a manic depressive robot)… I never pictured him that way… but somehow it worked.

I rather thought that the visuals were quite effective.

Also, I really really liked Ford Prefect. Very well done. The book itself was fantastically humorous. Oh, and I rather enjoyed the little things. Like… the different beings that popped up throughout… and the visual effects. Worked very well on the screen. Arthur throwing up yarn was priceless!

One thing I missed the most however… was the page of the original book concerning digital watches. I still don't like (and doubt that I will ever like) numbers on watches. They simply are not so nifty as to belong.

HHGTTG Tuesday night, City Centre 10:10pm?

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone wanted to join me for a late Tuesday night showing of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at Edmonton City Centre. It shows at 10:10pm (I get off of work at 8pm on Tuesday).
I'll go by myself otherwise, but I could always use the company… and really do want to see this movie! Since it's a Tuesday, cheap movie night, the prices are even quite reasonable. Let me know!
