Holiday Update!

Okay so I haven't typed anything jolly good for quite some time now, so I think I'd best do some typing now (while I'm still awake).

I spent a wonderful Christmas at home with my family. They certainly seemed to enjoy their gifts. My little nephew was great to see… he certainly has grown, and is as cute as ever. It felt a bit odd to open gifts on Christmas Eve (always does whenever it happens), but since Santa's coming in the middle of the night was no longer a real factor in the mix, it certainly worked out!

I got nice and spoiled this Christmas: Thanks to everyone for the most excellent gifts and cards! Not only did I hear from a tonne of excellent people this holiday but I got a lot of what I truly wanted this holiday season: time spent with friends! As for material things here's a short list of what I've managed to accumulate: Starbucks gift card (I suppose I'll be heading over there sometime… never been there before), Jimmy Buffett CD (AWESOME songs! Like Cheeseburger in Paradise… such great memories from ICON 2003!), A lifesaver story book (yummy butterscotch lifesavers among others!), spa stuff (for a stressed person! tee-hee-hee! How terribly fun and suitable! I even used the bath salts for the first time this morning… how fun!), That '70s Show Season 1 DVDs (*smiles*… I've been spoiled!), a paper shredder!! (I've been wanting one of these for months! It was such a great surprise!), Trivial Pursuit '90s edition (I gotta play that with people soon!), an awesome handmade necklace! (I adore the magnetic clasp, so cool!), a box of Jelly Belly Jelly beans (my fave flavours are in it!), a 512MB card for my digital camera (awesome to be able to actually take pictures and not worry about lack of space!), a hole punch and promise to take my bottles and cans away to the bottle depot! (such needed items!! 🙂 Gosh how spoiled this all makes me feel!!!), homemade goodies, luggage and so much else besides! then there's the awesome chocolate, toys, edibles, book, cush pillow and so on that I got from my amazing CKI friends from around the States whilst in Indianapolis! I mean wow! So many great gifts! And besides all that I've managed with some of my Christmas money to purchase a few odds and ends as well… and to think my mother asked if I felt like I hadn't gotten as much as my brothers? I mean sheesh! With all the excellent gifts, Christmas parties to attend, grades in classes, travel and whatnot, this month has been fabulous! And spending time with my most excellent friends is more than the cherry on the cake. Material wealth goes only so far (I mean really!), but great company, awesome food and so on is so much more fabulous than all that. I really haven't been THAT good this year. Why all the spoilage of Ali?

I feel so utterly spoiled!!

In other news…

I braved the Boxing Day LINE UPS with my brother. Now I wasn't like my older brother (he's younger than me, but the oldest of the brothers) who went out the night before to ensure being the first in line at Future Shop, I went out with my younger brother to wait outside A&B Sound and was still among the first 30 odd in the store at 7AM (getting up at 4AM is not terribly fun… but not all that unusual given my lifestyle at times). I only purchased a CD (Maybe This Christmas Tree?), which did turn out to be an excellent purchase… while my brothers made out like bandits, getting stellar deals on big ticket items. Later in the day we voyaged to the mall, and then to Walmart where I stocked up on Christmas cards. On a whole it was kind of fun… I'm still among the most frugal my family sees (which is why I do get material things rather than money… I tend not to spend enough of the money on fun stuff for myself… I'm trying to teach myself otherwise on occasion… but whatever).

I will need to go shopping for clothes in any case. After getting rid of (or rather bagging up some of) my clothes that don't particularly suit me or fit me or whatever… (I still need to sort through that stuff… and give it away to friends, family, charity and whatnot) I do have room in my closet for a bit. Primary importance is more pants I would believe given that I did run out of 'em rather quickly and I tend to be rather busy for laundry doing at times. Fancy that! 😉 So I truly do need to go out January (or end of December) shopping with friend(s).

In still more news, I get the impression that all of this spoilage of Ali has gained me some weight. Not necessarily a bad thing however. I need to get some good ol' fashioned housework done this year. It's tradition (Japanese) to clean house etc. around the turn of the year… so hopefully I'll get it much nicer this time around. And maybe even host a gathering sometime. We'll see.

So, I only have tuesday and thursday classes in the coming semester. Which means that I'll have some good quality time to do stuff… when I'm not working that is (or otherwise busy). Hopefully the time I'm not doing homework and whatnot will be enjoyable too! 🙂

Yikes! Time to get some shut eye approaches. Off to la-la land with me!

Semester: Finito!

So I guess I haven't been doing all that great of a job in updating people as to what I've been up to these days. Firstly I LOVE the fact that I've run into a ton of great friends as of late: Chris, Lorraine, Vince, Simon, Amanda… the list goese on and on and on! So stellar! 🙂

I'm not going to be a TF this year. Maybe I'll do OL though. I'm pretty uncertain about it overall. I'm not displeased though, if such excellent people as the CKIers I met today are going to be TFs I'm all happy! They essentially wanted to give a chance to people who hadn't done it before, so that's all groovy in my book.

I've been doing a ton of service as of late. The gift wrap certainly keeps me busy, as did the Spruce Ave Christmas luncheon (who knew I could carve TURKEYS?). It feels great to be contributing my time to such great causes!

But exams are finally done for the semester! Isn't that fabulous? It means that all I have between now and going home for a few days for the holiday is work and volunteering… I guess sleeping and eating too, plus hopefully seeing some great friends to cap that off as well. I'm done my Christmas shopping (asides from a little something I'll be getting from a friend hopefully). I'm also done my Christmas cards (also a great thing!), and I've only yet to clean my apartment, finish putting together a little surprise for someone and to say goodbye to my roommate when he goes home for the holidays. It'll be a good holiday season I would presume. Hopefully people will have time to spend with lil' ol' me over the vacation. If I'm lucky I'll even have some time off of work right when I'd appreciate it most? We'll see.

Something tells me that I've been tired these days. Why? 'cause random people keep telling me I look extra super tired. Not terribly awesome to hear that, but whatever. I like it best to hear the truth in any case. Perhaps some more sleep will help over the holidays, along with some more pampering 🙂 Can't wait until Hourglass Ball either.

I guess I'm also kinda wistful for the past at the same time though. I truly miss so many of my friends and aquaintances from the years gone by. I really truly hope to see some of them more frequently, not to mention spend time with people.

Oh! And Jackie and I got material for the dress! I totally hope that that works out fantastically! 🙂

How I love the Christmas Season… ;)

Apologies to all those who don't much enjoy the winter holidays, but I really do enjoy them… so here's my reasons why this December is going so Awesomely!
Bah Humbug was the most amusing house decoration on Candy Cane Lane last night when I visited.
Christmas dinners and luncheons are so delicious, especially when accompanied with fabulous fellowship!
December is filled with Decking the halls and other fabulous decorations!
Eating too much happens far too readily, but oh so yummily!
Friends often see and/or hear from each other once more during the holiday season 🙂
Gift shopping is such fun, especially when I get to frequent fabulous locations like the Butterdome Craft Sale!
Happy smiling faces are often seen when I walk down the street!
I can't help but want to listen to carols all day long… gotta love Christmas tunes, especially when they're sung by excellent choirs live (eg. at the Legislature!)
Just can't believe how much fun it is to enjoy the season, can I?
Kiwanis meetings and outings are especially excellent: if you ever have the chance to attend an Oil Capital Kiwanis Christmas meeting in years to come, GO!
Lights all across town at Bright Nights, Candy Cane Lane, and the Legislature not to mention a great dinner are beautiful and worth catching!
Making the time to respect the true meaning of the holidays is important.
Now is a great time to continue charitable efforts.
Ornaments, especially when made with love are such great objects to adorn my home.
Presents aren't the meaning of Christmas, but they are fun to give and make!
Quiet and peace are found often over the holidays!
Remembering to rest and relax is important.
Snow makes the season look just so festive…
Trees all strung with lights look beautiful out in the snow and of course in homes as well.
Understanding that not everyone celebrates for the same reasons or the same holidays is quite important.
Volunteering to help serve Christmas dinners, help at Christmas gatherings, donate food and gifts and so on is terribly important to share the cheer.
Wrapping gifts for donations to the Bissell Centre is such a rewarding experience!
Xmas cards in my mailbox makes me so happy!
Year's end is coming, thus Hourglass Ball is on it's way, as is the New Year!
Zellers is usually where I try to grab some random holiday odds and ends… because I adore Christmas, and it's such an excellent time of year!

Christmas yay! :)

So as you can probably tell by now, I ADORE the holiday season!

And I especially adore the facts that: I'm getting lovely Christmas mail! I received some of the most stellar gifts: The hole punch is AWESOME! As is the Cush pillow!! 🙂 As are the sweets, the gift cards, the money etc. (and it's not even Christmas yet!). As of yet people certainly seem to like the gifts that I've gotten them! (yay!) I'm almost done Christmas shopping (double yay!). It was so easy and fun this year to shop for such amazing people! And I'm almost finished writing my scads of awesome Christmas cards too! 🙂

The Kiwanis Christmas luncheon today went well. The other parties and get togethers have been excellent as well.

Anywho… I love Christmas! fa-la-la-la-la! 🙂

Holidays… stuffing… whoa.

So if I were a holiday turkey…

I'd be fit to be cooked.

Yep. What with the CKI Board meeting (where inevitably I eat a tonne of food…), field trip to my prof's house, Christmas parties, work, going out to eat, and so on I can't believe how much I've been consuming. And realistically there's no end in sight.

But things are going well. Loads of awesome service, great productive meetings, work hours, parties, and more. This December is ALREADY tonnes better than last year.

In any case… I really ought to finish writing Christmas cards and whatnot. My Christmas shopping is nearly done (just two more people to prepare stuff for, plus wrapping and whatnot).

So here's another quiz-y thingy… yeah. that's exactly it. uh huh… 🙂 Actually I rather enjoyed this one for its unique questions… and timing… I'm doing an amazing job of procrastinating completing this essay!

Welcome to the next edition of getting to know your friends. What you're supposed to do is copy this entire email and paste it onto a new email that you'll send. Change all of the answers so that they apply to you. The theory is that you'll learn a lot of little known facts about your friends. It's fun and easy. You might be surprised with some of the things you learn about people you think you know…and this is different from the last one!

1. IF YOU COULD BUILD A SECOND HOUSE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE? I don't even have my first house yet either… but if I would… well… there are so many intriguing locations… like near the Kiwanis International Office in Indianasince I go there often enough, or in Japan, or Taiwan or etc. But really, I think it would be coolest to have one someplace in Canada… in a city that worked with my non-drivingness perhaps? 😉 I care more about my 'dream house' than the location of a second house really.

2. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING? I dunno… I rather like the idea of the dress that Jackie's making for me… and I rather like my formal wear in general… 🙂 But lately I've been wearing my Utah State zip sweater most frequently 'cause it fits so well and is so comfy.

3. THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT? Gawsh… It has to be two of my Barrage CDs (Barrage, and their Live in Europe disc)… Gotta love Barrage!!!

4. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING? usually 8AM (for classes, and just 'cause)… the rest of the time I either have to be someplace EVEN earlier, or I'd been up FAR too late the previous day to get up for 8AM.

5. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE? I rather like the oven/stove.

6 PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Gawsh… Probably if I could play something really nifty like a harp or a guitar or something it would be cool… but really, I'm pretty satisfied at the moment with my (or my lack of) musical ability

7. FAVORITE COLOR? Red

8. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR OR SUV? Sports cars are more nifty

9. DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE AFTERLIFE? beats me.

10. FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOK? Gawsh… I'm going to cop out and say the Harry Potter series currently… although I love Martyn Godfrey books (Sigmund Brower books, Judy Blume books, and Gordon Korman books are great too etc.)

11. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON? I rather like Christmas (yeah yeah, that's not a season, but the month + leading up to it is pretty darn cool)… realistically I like the weather in Fall/Spring best.

12. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I would enjoy having an ability to live without having to sleep.

13. IF YOU HAVE A TATTOO, WHAT IS IT? n/a

14. CAN YOU JUGGLE? No.

15. THE ONE PERSON/PEOPLE FROM YOUR PAST YOU WISH YOU COULD GO BACK AND TALK TO? My Great Grandparents on both sides of the family would be really nifty I would imagine.

16. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DAY? any day that the sun shines! 😉

17. WHAT'S IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR? n/a

18. HAMBURGER or SUSHI? Sushi!

19. FROM THE PEOPLE YOU WILL EMAIL THIS TO, WHO'S MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND THE QUICKEST? n/a
20. WHO'S LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND? n/a

21. WHO DID YOU RECEIVE THIS FROM? Clarence.

22. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER? Roses are pretty nifty. But I'm not a huge flower person. There's a ton of exotic ones that are cool to look at. And I like cactus flowers too I guess.

23. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL? All meals appeal to me…well, most. 😛 *giggles* ditto, Clarence, ditto!
