Hmmmm…. Interesting Evening…

So we have the Orientation party here tonight. Loads of people… loads of side dishes… and green onion cookies are actually rather tasty…. you learn new things every day, eh?

In any case, the bajillion of things I wrote about last time has increased to a couple bajillion things. I'm a little more or less panicked about school for the fall… mainly 'cause I REALLY wanna take the write classes… I don't wanna take 4 years to get my degree if I can help it…. three would be perfect thank you very much. Gotta love getting e-mails telling me to declare stuff NOW or else. *sighs* Guess I gotta put together a portfolio to get into classes ASAP as well. My goodness.

In other news… this place is a mess again. Mostly 'cause I've got rather more food than I could ever eat really. I hope Brendan has a healthy appetite!

And I'm hoping that messes will clean themselves… 'cause I SO don't have enough time tomorrow to get everything done to leave before dawn on Friday. Life gets SO busy as of late… Sure it's what I love, but I miss my sleep and whatnot!

So… life stays hectic… what else is new?

So this past weekend I was in Regina… with lovely duststorm/windwarning weather. But our billet was great (the demonic tree was also amusing). It was good to see Underworld again in any case. The trip down was also entertaining… movies galore: Happy Gilmore, Ever After, Dumb and Dumber, The New Guy and on the way back: The Wedding Planner, Finding Nemo, Ocean's Eleven, and Austin Powers. Not in that order mind you… but still. The actual convention was quite entertaining. I'd never been to a Key Club convention… so it was pretty educational. Then again compared to KC DCONs from other districts, I'm 100% sure that this one was incredibly untraditional… but those facts aside we put on an incredibly successful Key to College program, got a lot of names for Key Clubbers eventually moving on to College/University to help us build this district and so on. So I was rather pleased.

Then I got home to my roommate moving out. That was over within a couple of hours… and I bathed and got some shut-eye.

The next day was evidently a work day (8hrs) and yesterday my NEW roommate moved in. Yay for that. Quite a bit of planning left for the scads of people arriving here this afternoon/evening… plus of course the other stuff that just NEEDs to get done in the next little bit. *sigh*

In any case… things go well… You gotta love when 47 youths on a band tour arrive at SaveOn right at the typical 9PM rush… and I really enjoyed blowing up balloons at the store. I never knew I could get them to float sideways… or to sink when full of helium. That was amusing.

Anywho… I've a bajillion things to do most likely *sigh* but whatever… At least the Banff trip, ICON, DOTC, and Taskforce are falling into place.

So I'm a 'geek liason' am I?

You are 40% geek
You are a geek liaison, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.

Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend.

You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines!

Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but we need more dilithium crystals!

You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.

*Long Quiz WARNING*

So Alex sends me this… and I decide to fill it out… for an interestingly LONG read check it out!

(1) The most important question – Name? – Ali
(2)Like it? – yeppers
(3) Are you named after anyone? not my first name as far as I know. My middle one maybe… after a character in a book or something.
(4) Are you a prostitute? nope.
(5) Your screenname: AliKira, ali_kira, kaligira, KiraAli and variations thereof.
(6) Would you name a child of yours after you? unlikely… not my first name anyway… maybe my middle name, but also unlikely.
(7) Then what would you name your children? I don't know honestly. (that's usually the answer I give)
(8)If you were born a member of the opposite sex, what would your name be? I don't know what my parents would have favoured… I only have the Name the Baby book from when my brother Logan's name was being considered.
(9) If you could switch names with a friend, who would that be? why swap? I wouldn't honestly… If I had to, I rather like Anastasia's name 😉 But really I wouldn't… the only reason to do so would be to stop getting comments about my Arab/Iranian/Muslim/etc. name for a bit.
(10) Are there any mispronounciations/typos that people do with your name constantly: *laughs* all the time actually! pronounciations: A-leee, Ah-lie etc. Spellings are almost NEVER right: Ally, Alie, Allie, Aly, Alli, and then there's the people who automatically assume I'm an Alice or Allison or something *sigh*
(11) Would you drop your last name if you became famous? Nope. I fully plan to be known by my full name… Not that Ali Kira doesn't have a nice ring to it, but I like the addition of my last name too.

Okay: Worst Exam Yet…. and it hasn't sunk in yet.

So guess what? I'm posting again! *chortles merrily*

This time, I'm going to talk about the horrible class I took this semester: Advanced Perception (Psyco 365).

I'm not going to lie to you. YES I slept through this class often. Really often… In fact, I can remember a total of 4 or so classes that I for sure stayed completely awake and alert throughout (topics: time perception, pain perception, touch etc…. the GOOD topics… which we frankly spent far too little time on). But it wasn't as if I slept because I wanted to: I was either purely sleep deprived or bored out of my mind (or a combination thereof… probably the combination option)… really… the prof was decent last semester but this semester (this class) he really bored me outa my mind. So that's where I stood with the class. It wasn't overly hard… just tedious, and rather like I wasn't learning anything new (the Perception class [the prerequisite] covers mostly the same stuff with less of the boring annoying material). But since I'm an auditory learner… when it came time to study… things didn't sink in so well as they should have.

Thank the lucky stars I determined the night before that all I needed was a 10% to pass with 40% in the class (a D)… 'cause when I got the exam and looked at the essay questions, I realized I could do NONE of them satisfactorily, I was ready to panic and leave (I didn't… needed that 10%). So I write that 55 mark thing (30 marks are for that essay) worth 45% of my final grade (uck!) and hope for the best. It's never a good sign when my 3-5page essay is 2pages long. But hopefully I'll have done okay.

It didn't help that 30 minutes into that 2hr exam I got a killer stomach ache. Probably 'cause I'd eaten only a bowl of cereal and 4 vegetarian samosas today up to that point, and was likely a tad hungry or something of that sort, but really it was annoying. So I left after an hour and fifteeen minutes after having answered as much as possible (and before starting to really bullshit my way through contradicting my earlier answers)…

And that just felt bad. Really bad. At least it's not my last exam of this degree. That'll be Wednesday.

Procrastinating studying — AGAIN!

So I'm procrastinating studying. Why? (I'll be irrational and tell the truth) I'm frickin' scared (excuse the language *rolls eyes*). This is the class I SLEEP through 'cause it's so darnned borring. I try studying (and I have… in my moments of clarity and non-sickness this week… as few as they have been), and the facts don't sink in. In fact, I often fall asleep. Perhaps the shut-eye helps (and I'm sure that it does) but really! Anyhow, I'm finally feeling half healthy today (unlike my co-worker today, I actually had a voice… yesterday I felt like I was trying to yell when really I knew that the volume of my voice was closer to that of a soft talking voice… and I wasn't sniffing as much… and I slept through the night which was cool)… but I don't think it's going to help me re-learn this junk really. So I'm *insert forboding music here* DOOMED! *sighs*

What have I determined this week? Firstly, that I know damned well (excuse the language again… whatever) that I don't spend enough time cultivating my relationships with my friends. I'm sure that the people I really hold dear to my heart don't necessarily know it if I rarely if ever hear from them, or spend time with them etc. Sure I'm good at hobbiting myself, but sheesh! Since I value relationships with people above many many other things… I ought to spend more time with these friends. Apologies to all.

Secondly, that I'm pretty *insert appropriate adjective here* pleased that I purchased the specific CDs that I did from the bookstore sale. Sure 5 were Classical (hypothetically for study purposes), and 4 were Christmas (which hopefully I won't listen to for a good long while)… but I'm SO pleased with the other 8 CDs… 4 were compilations including some of my FAVE songs… and then I picked up a few random others (Celine Dion in french [my teacher hooked me in 7-8th grades I think], The Byrds (another album… great band, really!), a Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship compilation of hits, and the third Classic Disney album [I just HAD to have 'Once Upon a Dream' from Sleeping Beauty])

Thirdly, that my 'sound mode' settings on my stereo rock! I mean WOW! 🙂 It makes such a small but worthwhile difference when I want it.

Fourthly, I like the really pathetic TV show: Extreme Makeovers Home Edition. Yep. I do. I'll admit it. I don't get the channels that show Trading Spaces and whatnot, so I watch this instead. Wierd…. maybe it's just me being a vegetable and sick… but whatever

Fifthly, I spend a rather lot of my time on LJ.

Sixthly, Cheemo perogies make a mediocre breakfast… much better for midnight snacks covered in toppings such as maple syrup (feel free to comment!)

Seventhly, I'm really liking my LAZY cooking these days… REALLY! I've got to learn me how to do something else with food I think… and my experimenting really isn't getting me anywheres (I mean think of the looks I get when people learn about my GOOD experiments (maple syrup perogies, peanut butter and strawberry sandwiches, etc.) you can easily imagine the 'Ali's kitchen gone wrong masterpieces'.

Eighthly, I still have a ton of doubles of photos to give to people. Like usual they'll probably sit around for ages until they migrate into the appropriate hands.

Ninthly, I like the newly carpeted stairs at my apt building.

Tenthly, funerals and memorial services feel so much better when the honored individual is well Eulogized. *sighs*

Eleventhly, I'm very pleased that certain things have turned out for the better *stress quickly evaporating*.

Twelfthly, I still have like a zillion things to do before the end of this month. ARRGGH!

Please feel free to comment. I'd rather like that actually.

Would I make a good Cyborg?

Here's my cyborg name:
A.L.I.K.I.R.A.: Artificial Lifelike Individual Keen on Infiltration and Rational Assassination
http://www.cyborgname.com/

So whatdya think? Would I make a good Cyborg? I like this name rather much in any case! 😉

Return of the LJ quizzes… (this one's personal it seems)

What's your first name: Ali
Do you remember the first nickname ever given to you: I probably don't. I'm betting someone called me 'Ali Kira' as a nickname at some point very soon after my birth… aside from that early nicknames were insults mostly… mostly refering to Prince Ali and the forty theives, and other such other stuff. First real nickname would probably have been when my little brother started calling me Al' which was pretty disturbing 'cause I didn't really answer to that (being that it was my dad's nickame in University etc.).
What was your first word when you were a baby: I *think* it was 'NO' either that or 'More' (I can't remember which of my parents' stories was mine)
Who was your first friend (any age applies): Probably Megan Rippon (I had other playmates but that would likely be my first 'real' friend)
What age did you first learn to speak in full sentences: I don't know, probably whatever age is normal for children.
What was your first favorite toy: hmmmph. I had one such thing? Probably Garnett Caldwell, my cabbagepatch kid (which I still have somewheres) we even had matching clothing and everything! Other than that there would be my blanket, but I wasn't super attached to that unlike my brothers with their 'blankies'!
What's your first embarrassing memory: hmmm… uh… probably peeing my pants or something else equally reasonable for a really young child.
What was the first cd you ever owned: I *think* that that was Let's Talk About Love by Celine Dion then it was the 1998 Grammy Nominees and that was followed by Supreme Love Gods.
What was the first movie you ever owned (Disney movies count): I personally owned movies? I guess I did… I *think* it was something along the lines of 'If I could teach the World to Sing'
What was the first concert you've ever been to: Savage Garden's Affirmation Tour I believe for my friend Kim's birthday (5th row floor seats… YAY for Kim!!)
Do you remember the first book you ever read: I don't know… but likely either a book on potty training (yep… I loved that book…) or Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss.
What was the first movie you saw in a movie theatre?: I don't know. The first one I remember in theatres was Snow White.
Do you remember the first day of high school/college: I remember the first day of both high school and university.
If you've made icons/wallpapers/graphics, what was the first one you ever made?: I don't really make such things avidly. And I don't know.
First boyfriend/girlfriend: Daniel Joseph Audy
What was your first kiss like/who was it with: Akward (as expected) but nice actually and it was with Scott Graeme MacDormand
First guy you ever liked (not necessarily went out with): Peter van Dean (I had a crush on him in Kindergarden of all things
First loved (one-sided loves count): unless you count family members I'm not going to be able to answer this question I think. It also depends on what kind of love.
If you've ever been out of state, where was the first state you've gone to (with or without parents): Okay, firstly I don't live in a state but a province. The first other province I went to was Alberta (I was born in BC, thank you very much). As for first state I've gone to, I think it was Washington State (shopping trips with Grandparents across the border when our dollar was reasonable… like now I guess)
First boyfriend you were truly in love with: I don't think that this applies… I didn't really *love* those boyfriends I don't think… although I certainly liked them, and they're great friends even now (although I really don't see them much as of late due to social circles changing)

Another quiz-y thing

This one I like. Probably 'cause it's allowing me to procrastinate, and express myself without having to put in too too much effort. I think I do quizzes as a diversion from thinking of other things sometimes… other times to express myself.
